Style / Profile

Based in Palm Beach, Florida USA, this collective of Electro labels comprising of Frajile, Monotone and Exceleration have obviously got roots in the Miami Bass scene. However, there is no way that they can be pigeonholed so precisely as their sounds and influences transcend many genres. 'Making darkness out of light - Evolving into the future', are some of their self-professed takes on their sound.

Frajile has seen projects such as 'Resident Alien' and 'Musik is the Drug' that push funky, bass driven, yet deep, futuristic and moody soundscapes, as well as contributions from other Florida Electro artists on similar deep audio excursions. Exceleration is gears towards a more progressive Electro sound with every release, whilst Monotone has been conceived to bring together this sound that their main act Exzakt (aka Larry McCormick) has established, but on an international level by bringing in other artists for single releases and remixes.

Although atmosphere and depth are always evident, the sound that these labels put out never stagnates, always reinventing, and above all, always retaining that infectious dancefloor edge and sharp production quality.

History

Frajile was founded in 1999 by James Wolfe (to whom the first release belonged) but later came under the co-ordination of Larry McCormick who was present behind the scenes from the very beginning, doing the artwork (which is something special on nearly every release) and helping with sales and distribution. The second releases saw the initiation of their joint project 'Resident Alien' recording a unique selection of songs over a spanned period of time in mysterious fashion. Since then Frajile has played host to an eclectic selection of Florida Electro Artists.

Jason Reep (aka Excel) later founded Exceleration with the help of Larry, to provide a different twist on the Frajile sound. Most recently Larry has created 'Monotone USA' as his personal baby and international outlet, which is much needed as all of you who have tried to find any Frajile/Exceleration releases anywhere in Europe will know.

Players / Related Projects

Apart from main acts Resident Alien and Exzakt, other frequent artists to be found are Excel, Uprock, and James Wolfe on a solo tip. The second Frajile 12" (Florida Electro Artists Vol. 1) also featured Scratch D from Dynamix II. Larry McCormick has also remixed for other people such as Anthony Rother for the 'Biomechanik' EP on PSI49NET Germany. In fact, close ties are maintained with PSI49NET, and Frajile number four ('Musik is the Drug') was mastered by Anthony in his PSI-studio. Monotone USA is kick started with a remix from BLIM, with remixes for future releases and tracks from Uprock and Exzakt as 'Electro Sluts', Phonecia, and Electrolux (Germany) artists Monolove, Kinestheticas as well as Exzakt's debut CD album 'Evolve' being released in co-op with Nuff Nuff Music. Exzakt (also known for his DJ and live PA skills) is also responsible for compiling & mixing the 'Electro Breakz Six' compilation, hardly surprising as his DJ sets stand out on their own.
